This summer, I’m excited to launch a limited-edition collection of tassel earrings to support a cause close to my heart (the fabulous San Francisco Mime Troupe) and utilize materials close at hand. As part of my ongoing art project, “Making Magic with What I Have,” these earrings were created with upcycled materials, including threads passed down from my grandmother’s Japanese Temari creations and vintage gold-toned findings from my father’s now-closed arts and crafts supply business.
These earrings are an invitation to practice “Level 4 Listening,” a concept adopted from MIT professor Otto Scharmer’s free online course, Leading from the Emerging Future. Wearing and interacting with these earrings, my hope is that folks will simply listen and communicate with one another with compassion, and a desire to build community. With this collection, I aim to inspire mutual understanding while offering beauty, durability, and sustainability.

Each pair is only $36 and includes free shipping within the US. My goal is to sell out as soon as possible so that I can upload a launch of creepy artworks in time for the Halloween season. 50% of every sale in the Hoshi Hana Etsy Shop, from now until December 31st, 2025, will be donated to the San Francisco Mime Troupe. Their free, socially-conscious performances urgently need our support, and this is my way of giving back to the city of San Francisco where I attended art school and learned so much about community and activism. Follow my Instagram @hoshihana23 for updates on donations, or please consider donating directly to this amazing organization, who is “Never Silent, always Revolutionary” and “America’s Foremost Theater of Political Satire.” at https://www.sfmt.org/.
